Welcome Milwaukee Academy of Irish Dance
and Milwaukee Irish Dance Company

Owner and Artistic Director Elyse Transon recently opened an Irish dance studio in Shorewood at 3555 N. Oakland. She started dancing with Cashel Dennehy in Milwaukee at the age of 5 and professionally as an adult, performing in various companies (Gaelforce Dance, Women of Ireland, Disney’s Raglan Road, The American Company of Irish Dance, to name a few) and in multiple countries.  She’s done it all, as principal dancer, choreographer, and tour manager.

In addition to performing, she has over 15 years of teaching experience.  In 2014, she received her Irish dance teacher certification and  founded the Milwaukee Irish Dance Company (MIDC), which is the next chapter for adult Irish dancers from the Milwaukee area. Anyone over 18 with Irish Dance experience is welcome to join and MIDC is now home to over 30 adult dancers. “MIDC has always pushed the boundaries of traditional Irish dance and incorporates fusion numbers. For that reason we’ve performed in some really cool non traditional space ” said Transon. Although the Academy will have a more of a traditional take, it will still have her unique stamp on it. “My goal is still the same: to give dancers as many unique opportunities as possible and bring up a new generation of Irish dancers who keep pushing this dance genre forward into new spaces while still holding onto its traditional roots.”

Hiya Taco Liquor License Approved
Tuesday night the Shorewood Village Board approved a liquor license for newly branded Hiya Taco, a new venture for the Toro Toro Toro restaurant group (BelAir, Fuel, Comet Cafe to name a few), that will be serving up street taco and other quick and delectable fair.

This new concept will fit perfectly in the previous restaurant space at 4114 N. Oakland space, utilizing the fantastic indoor and outdoor amenities already in place. What a great addition to the central commercial district! Look for an open sign in February.

What’s Going on at Kensington Square Corner?
Well, it’s quiet right now, but expect changes at 4496 N. Oakland. Until just recently, this corner space was home to your neighborhood liquor store for decades. The building is changing ownership and the new local owner purchased the space out of love for Shorewood. Much effort is going into  identifying a business  that the community wants and that will complement  the current mix of businesses at Kensington Square.

Crave Cafe Getting a Face Lift?
Owner David Wu is exciting to get work started at 3596 N. Oakland the Fall. Wu hired local design-extraordinaire Flux Design to put their touch on the interior and exterior of the building. Wu purchased the building a couple of years ago and has great plans for the adjacent space, once home to a dry cleaning business. Keep your eyes open as another Shorewood business invests in the community.
